The Departmental Committee on Agriculture and Livestock, led by the Chairman, Parliamentary Agriculture and Livestock Committee, Hon. (Dr.) John K. Mutunga, conducted a field visit to the East African Tea Trade Association (EATTA) as part of its ongoing Inquiry into the pricing structure and dynamics of Kenya’s tea industry. The visit provided an opportunity for the Committee to engage with EATTA’s leadership and obtain firsthand insights into the operations of the Mombasa Tea Auction and the wider tea value chain. During the session, the Committee focused on understanding the major cost centres within the industry, analysing their influence on pricing, and identifying gaps that may hinder efficiency and competitiveness. Insights gathered from this visit will help inform the Committee’s recommendations on policy, institutional, and market reforms necessary to strengthen the sector and ensure its long-term sustainability..
